Every year, China needs about 2,000 kinds of raw materials and intermediates to support the chemical industry, with a demand of more than 2.5 million tons. After more than 30 years of development, China's pharmaceutical production of chemical raw materials and intermediates needed to support the basic, only a small part of the need to import. And because China is rich in resources, raw material prices are low, there are many intermediates to achieve a large number of exports. So, what are the development opportunities in the field of pharmaceutical intermediates in China?

Increased demand

After nearly 50 years of development, China has formed a complete production system of β-lactam antibiotics. 2012 almost all β-lactam antibiotics (except for the varieties within the patent period) can be produced in China, and the cost is very low, penicillin production ranks in the world, a large number of exports to supply the international market; cephalosporin antibiotics Cephalosporin antibiotics are basically self-sufficient, and can also strive to export part of it.

In 2012, with the β-lactam antibiotics supporting intermediates all of China's own production, in addition to the semi-synthetic antibiotics of the parent nucleus 7-ACA and 7-ADCA need to be partially imported, all the side chain intermediates can be produced, and a large number of exports.

To β-lactam antibiotics of the main supporting intermediates phenylacetic acid, for example, China's existing phenylacetic acid manufacturers nearly 30, the total annual production capacity of about 20,000 tons. In 2003, the total domestic demand for phenylacetic acid was about 14,000 tons, with a consumption structure of 85% for penicillin G, 4% for other pharmaceuticals, 7% for spices, and 4% for pesticides and other fields.

With the development of the domestic spice, pharmaceutical and pesticide industries, the demand for phenylacetic acid will further increase. It is expected that by 2005, the pharmaceutical industry in China will consume about 14,000 tonnes of phenylacetic acid, the pesticide industry will consume 500 tonnes and the spice industry will consume about 2,000 tonnes. Together with consumption in other areas, the total domestic demand for phenylacetic acid is expected to reach 18,000 tonnes in 2005.

 

Fluorinated pyridine

Fluorinated pyridine intermediates become a hot spot

As of 2012, the main quinolone antibacterial drugs developed and put into mass production in China are norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, enrofloxacin, lomefloxacin and flurofloxacin. Among them, the production volume of norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin is the largest, accounting for about 98% of the total production of fluoroquinolone antibacterial drugs in China.

Quinolones are generally obtained by the synthesis of fluorinated quinoline-containing compounds from fluorinated benzene rings and then condensed with piperazine (or methylpiperazine). As China is rich in fluorspar reserves, it is one of the world's largest producers of fluorinated drugs and intermediates, with more than 80% of fluorinated intermediates supplied for export. On the whole, the development of fluorobenzene intermediates in China is early, and the production capacity is generally excessive; the development of trifluorotoluene intermediates is late, and the development speed is fast; and for heterocyclic aromatic compounds, especially fluoropyridine, only individual research units and manufacturers in China have the synthesis technology of fluoropyridine intermediates, therefore, fluoropyridine intermediates will become the main direction of domestic research and development of fluorinated intermediates in the next few years One of the

China has become the world's largest producer of antipyretic and analgesic drugs, with the production of aspirin, paracetamol and anandamide exceeding 10,000 tons, and the production of finasteride, aminopyrine and antipyrine exceeding 1,000 tons. At present, the production of antipyretic and analgesic drugs in China is growing rapidly and is expected to grow at a rate of about 8% in the future. The production of intermediates for the production of antipyretic and analgesic drugs is large, and there are many production enterprises. With the growth of antipyretic and analgesic drugs, their intermediates have also gained great development.

In 2003, the domestic consumption of paracetamol increased rapidly, and the export also showed a rapid growth momentum, with the export volume of 28,163 tons, and the year-on-year increase of export volume reached about 1 times. In the first half of 2004, the growth rate of paracetamol exports slowed down but still increased, and the export volume of paracetamol from January to May 2004 was 12,501 tonnes, slightly higher than the same period last year. Paracetamol is an important intermediate in the synthesis of paracetamol and is growing rapidly. The annual production of paracetamol in China is 32,000 tons, and it is expected that by 2005, the domestic production of paracetamol will reach more than 50,000 tons, and the pharmaceutical industry will consume 45,000 tons of paracetamol, plus the application in other fields, the total demand of paracetamol in 2005 is about 50,000 tons, with a large market gap and a broad prospect of development and utilization.

Looking at the whole industry, there are six characteristics in the production of pharmaceutical intermediates in China at present.

Features

Firstly, most of the production enterprises are private enterprises, with flexible operation and small investment scale, basically between millions to one or two tens of millions of yuan; secondly, the geographical distribution of production enterprises is relatively concentrated, mainly distributed in the area centered on Taizhou, Zhejiang and Jintan, Jiangsu; thirdly, as the country pays more and more attention to environmental protection issues, the pressure on production enterprises to build environmental protection treatment facilities increases; fourthly, the speed of product renewal is fast. This forces enterprises to develop new products or improve production process continuously in order to maintain high production profit; Fifthly, since the production profit of pharmaceutical intermediates is higher than that of chemical products and the production process of both is basically the same, more and more small chemical enterprises have joined the ranks of producing pharmaceutical intermediates, leading to disorderly competition in the industry. Sixth, compared with API, the profit rate of producing intermediates is low, and the production process of API and pharmaceutical intermediates is similar, therefore, some enterprises have not only produced intermediates, but also started to produce API by using their own advantages.
